AGILITY

Agility is a complex skill and it is dependent on several factors (physical, perceptual-cognitive).

 

Agility can be termed as rapid changes of movement velocity, direction and mode in response to a stimulus.

​

The ability to rapidly change speed, direction and mode of movement is considered advantageous in football as the players need to constantly move in different movement patterns on and off the ball

conditioning

Conditioning, through developing aerobic and anaerobic fitness, requires manipulating a number of variables in order to target the specified area of development.

 

Sets, reps, duration, intensity, frequency, and recovery all need to be considered when looking to improve an athlete's aerobic or anaerobic fitness.

​

Conditioning can be done in a number of different ways, all of which have their own benefits to sporting performance.

movement Skills

When developing movement skills, it is important to follow and reinforce a good technical model.

​

This will ensure no faulty patterns are being re-enforced during leaning the movements. In addition, training becomes safer due to reduced risk of injury from poor movement technique.

​

Levels of movement competency in young athletes are lower than they used to be and limited physical literacy is a big concern for young people in general

STRENGTH

Strength plays a vital role within football due its repeated back and forth nature.

​

A player must be able to perform frequent maximal efforts of power under pressure and demonstrate physical presence against any opposition.

​

The ability to win one to one battles, drive with explosiveness and make positive plays, all come from the strength and power of a player.

sPEED

Acceleration and maximal speed are essential physical qualities to becoming a successful footballer.

​

Research has found that the majority of match deciding moments begin or end with a high speed/explosive movement.  

For example: straight line sprinting is the most dominant action during goal scoring.

Nutrition

Nutrition for sport is a key factor of ever growing importance. The role of nutrition is to fuel, repair and ultimately improve the health of any athlete so they can best perform their chosen sport.

One of the most simple concepts,

in terms of sports nutrition, is energy balance. Energy balance can be simply defined as: the relationship between the intake of food and the output of work.

 

An individual's energy balance is directly responsible for them gaining, losing or maintaining weight (mass).
