England semi-final Win

UEFA Euro 2024 - England Match Analysis - Game 6

We’ve made it to the final of the Euros 2024

I thought the first half performance was the best that he had undertaken in any of the Euro 2024 games.

Here are some position-specific notes that I made during the game as again we used the 3-4-2-1 formation

High Pressing

We pressed up a lot higher and a lot more consistently than we had previously undertaken. Kane, Foden and Bellingham were nice and compact. Wingbacks Saka and Trippier were also fairly high and narrow also. Mainoo was almost as high as our front 3 and that was a good benefit

Foden’s performance in the first half was excellent and here are a few descriptions of the work he undertook

Foden

13.01 - Foden drops in to receive a pass from Stones and receives on the half turn and makes a good pass to Rice

22.22 - Forward run from Foden into the left hand side of the box. Good straight pass from Mainoo. Foden receives and beats a defender in a tight area. Moves ball from left to right in very tight area and has a shot which is just stopped on the line.

27.26 - Mainoo makes a good side pass into Foden, Foden receives on the half turn and makes a good pass into Bellingham with an opportunity for a shot

31.22 - Rice pass into Saka who drops out as Walker runs in. Saka makes the pass to Foden. Foden cuts in and makes a left foot angled shot from the outside of the box which hits the top of the post.

Forward Attacking Work

There was lots of positive play in the final third. Mainoo pushed high up on a regular basis and again demonstrated his excellent technical ability. Saka played wide and narrow, when wide he did well in trying to beat the defender. When he moved infield he provided the space for Walker to be high and positive. Bellingham made runs in behind Kane which created space for other players to receive. Rice played an excellent long diagonal forward pass to Walker. Kane had a couple of shots form outside the box and also received the penalty.

Now we play Spain on Sunday with an opportunity of winning the Euros for the first time.

Come on England!!!
